The Asia Pacific Artistic Research Network was initiated from the Centre of Visual Art, University of Melbourne and the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta.
APARN’s inaugural meeting was held in October 2019 in association with the International Conference on Asia Pacific Arts Studies in Yogyakarta. The APARN convenors have each hosted an edition of the annual symposium in the Asia Pacific region from their own resources.
Previous MeetingsAn additional annual meeting is held online, aligned with the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) conference and forum and focussed on sharing activities and connections broadly across the network, including with those who cannot travel to the event.
APARN at SAR Conference 2025The SIG also maintains a channel in the Journal for Artistic Research which holds contributions from the annual symposia, and in 2025 they will be piloting a “yearbook” documenting artistic research projects from across the region.
